Vipers Review

Vipers, the 2008 straight to TV B-movie is a fantastic example of a film doing ‘just what it says on the box’. The plot summary runs as thus; genetically modified Vipers are unwittingly unleashed on a small American town… numerous deaths ensue. Tara Reid heads up the cast as a marijuana growing garden centre owner with a past full of pain. The lesser known (and rightly so) Jonathan Scarfe steps up as the love interest; an ex military Doctor shortly arrived in the port town.

Everything about this film shrieks ‘please don’t watch me!’, however if you are a fan of the whole animal attack genre, this film is a real hoot, for want of a better word. The scripting is awful; my personal favourite lines:

Dr. Silverton: What brings you to this small town? If you don’t mind me asking, that is...

Cal Taylor: No, I don’t mind. (End of conversation).

But this only ads to the hilarity of Bill Corcoran’s snake flick. The Vipers are, of course, a fantastic failure in CGI, the characterisation is about as flat as it gets, and the relationships are ridiculously over-complicated – a partner swapping marathon, if you may. To put all this aside, however, there really are some fantastic death scenes that easily match those of Snakes on a Plane or Anaconda. One great example is the ‘being eaten in bed’, where Mercedes McNab (Buffy the Vampire Slayer) foolishly thinks her partner is getting a little frisky, when in fact she is about to be gorged upon by killer snakes.

Of course the evil drugs boss who had the snakes modified becomes entwined in the plot, a gripping final face off with the Vipers is implausibly successful, and a predictably happy ending is thrown in for good measure. All of which adds to the pleasure of Vipers; a complete feat in bad film-making.

One of the dumbest movies i ever see. how can you ever get kill by a bunch of snake who is just have deadly poison when you have all those weapon to wipe them out in a second. they are not even fast or strong just poisonous which in all case there already are and have been. only retard can get kill by those snake. acting is all stupid too. they will do the dumbest thing in a bad situation. a doctor who can stop wound. the acting was bad as the mover plot is.
